Hello and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us! My name is Matthew Pickering and I am the founder of Altered North. For many years, family and friends said that I had a good eye when it came to photography. Eventually I had to either listen to them or assume that everyone was just being nice to me. Besides my mom, I did not think my friends were that nice. In 2015 I started down the path of learning photography by following the greats (at least in my mind) Thomas Heaton and Peter McKinnon, on YouTube. I watched every episode the day they came out and made my way through their catalogs eager to go out and practice. Fast forward to the end of 2018 and after spending 14 years working in a corporate office, I decided that I needed to make a change. While I have always wanted to make enough to pay the bills by selling my landscape photos, I knew that was not likely anytime soon. So I decided to combine my passion for photography and the world of design. This began the journey of Altered North, a way to bring the creatives of the world.
Based out of Denver, CO. Altered North is surrounded by some of the most inspirational creatives who thrive in an active lifestyle close to some of the most scenic spots in the world. This atmosphere helped to foster a love of the arts, outdoors, and people. One thing that is missing is a way for artist to showcase their passions and find an easily accessible platform to sell their product. By partnering with photographers, designers, and those passionate about their world, Altered North is hoping to bring together a community in order to help everyone discover new artists from around the world. From the summit of remote mountain tops to your local bar, Altered North is here to provide apparel with a unique story, Photographed Locally and Designed Globally.
As we begin to build this community, we are looking for photographers and designers who would be interested in building this community. Please reach out to us if you are interested in collaborating or just want to offer your opinions. We are small and often busy but will get in touch as soon as possible.
